About the project

The general goal of the project “Food Literacy for Local Food”, acronym “FL4LF”, is to build and develop a community-based learning model that promotes Food Literacy and supports multi- vulnerable adults.

Food systems around the world are under enormous pressure, and the analysis of the topicality of the topic and the needs included a review of the available literature at the world, European and national levels.

Food insecurity is usually seen as a problem in low-income countries; however, this is a growing challenge even in high-income countries where the number of people experiencing this social and health problem - defined as "limited or uncertain ability to obtain acceptable food in socially acceptable ways" - is increasing.

"Food Literacy" can be defined as "the set of interrelated knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to plan, manage, select, prepare, and eat food to meet needs." (Dr Helen Widgen).

Reconnecting with the producers who feed us

Reconnecting with local farmers fosters community resilience, trust in food sources, and supports sustainable agriculture.

Supporting local vendors

Supporting local vendors stimulates economic growth within communities, preserves unique cultural identities, and reduces environmental impact by minimizing transportation distances.

Reducing food waste

Reducing food waste promotes social equity by redirecting surplus food to those in need, addressing hunger and food insecurity within communities.
