The general goal of the project “Food Literacy for Local Food”, acronym “FL4LF”, is to build and develop a community-based learning model that promotes Food Literacy and supports multi-
vulnerable adults.
Food systems around the world are under enormous pressure, and the analysis of the topicality of the topic and the needs included a review of the available literature at the world, European and national levels.
Food insecurity is usually seen as a problem in low-income countries; however, this is a growing challenge even in high-income countries where the number of people experiencing this social and health problem - defined as "limited or uncertain ability to obtain acceptable food in socially acceptable ways" - is increasing.
"Food Literacy" can be defined as "the set of interrelated knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to plan, manage, select, prepare, and eat food to meet needs." (Dr Helen Widgen).
